A dazzling new Flash design – Delhi!

Delhi (not to be confused with New Delhi) is one of the oldest continuously occupied cities in the world. Delhi means “large hearted” or “daring” and that certainly applies to the newest addition of the PhotoBiz lineup of contemporary Flash designs.

The dazzling opening transitions is a PhotoBiz first intended to be for those of you who want to express a sense of fun and excitement. As you move around the site from image-to-image or page-to-page the screen literally sparkles with enthusiasm.

    Delhi Flash Portfolio Design

The “polka-dot” theme is continued through the top navigation bar drop down menus, which display dots flanking the text. Then as you make your way into the galleries, dots are vertically stacked in the right margin to show you where you are in the slideshow, plus if you roll your mouse over them a  thumbnail is shown.

    Delhi Flash Portfolio Design

PhotoBiz’s unique color shifting technology can be applied to menu items, thumbnail dots, and icons. With the dazzling Delhi design you select the color of the background and the dots are automatically set to a lighter shade of that color.

Each and every PhotoBiz template offers a unique loading symbol. Below is the symbol for Delhi. And as always, all of the colors shown in the example are fully customizable.

    Delhi Loading Symbol

The Delhi design is available now in your PhotoBiz Control Panel! If you are a current PhotoBiz customer, you can switch to this new design for free with one click of your mouse! If you want to preview it first, no problem, there is also a one-click preview feature as well!

Special thanks to Cherie Steinberg of Beverly Hills Photography for sharing her images for the sample of the Delhi design!

Twenty Something Elegance = South Street. New BizSite/Blog/Store Design

South Street is a very clean design that has a distinctively modern appeal. You’ll love the elegant open frame, and the tab-based approach has a definite sense of youthful style.

The Store design sample features a simple ruled-line at the top and bottom of the frame and there are no borders to constrain your images. The “rollover” tabs give the navigation bar order and depth. Our new color scheme “Black and Yellow” illustrates this particularly well on an “Events” or “Products” page. You can mouse over either the image or the tab to really see the page come alive.

The South Street Blog sample design carries this theme just a bit further. The page name is prominently shown in a color-coordinated bar above your images and has a rollover effect with the subtlest of hairline borders, just like the main navigation.

The three samples shown demonstrate one of the most powerful features PhotoBiz has to offer – custom backgrounds. Practically no one else in the industry offers this option to choose from an extensive background library of high quality images or upload your own.

Just like the real South Street in Philadelphia where visitors and residents, teenagers and adults, preppies and punk rockers, artists and attorneys all mix seamlessly together, our design brings all the pieces of your website together. Mirroring this diverse mix of fun-to-watch pedestrians is our wonderfully eclectic lineup of 12 HTML5 compatible BizSite/Store/Blog designs to choose from that you can change with just one click.

Special thanks to Melissa Diep for sharing her images for the BizSite sample, to Kerry Brett for her images used for the Store Site sample, and to Natalie Howe for the Blog Site sample images.

    PhotoBiz Gems – Overlooked Features

Are you taking full advantage of your PhotoBiz membership? We have some pretty amazing features that we think more people should use, so today I wanted to review a few features that you may have missed while setting up your PhotoBiz account.

    Color Shifting

Want to highlight each of your images with their own unique colors? Then the Color Shifting tool is for you. As each image in your galleries appear, you can set the color profile of your entire site to shift, and accentuate key elements in your images. With this you can give your site a different look and feel for each gallery or even change the colors within the gallery to highlight each image individually. Just look at this gallery in our Bordeaux sample and see how effective the color shifting can be! Notice how the background becomes purple when the image of the bouquet appears, and when the images of the flamingos running along the beach appears how the background becomes salmon. It really makes those images pop!

    Image Transition Bank

Another great feature of your Flash portfolio and BizSite galleries is the ability to change the style of transitions between images. The way your images transition can completely change the feel of your website. There are so many choices you are bound to find one that fits your brand’s personality. In addition to changing the style of the image transitions, you can also control the speed. With a few clicks of the mouse you can go from a stately, smooth transition to a visually intense, rapid moving slide show and back again. Go ahead play around with it!

    Page Specific SEO Sections

Everyone wants to be found in search results, right? Therefore, I highly suggest you take some time to get to know this section of your control panel. You may find this section labeled “Search Engine Optimization (SEO)” or simply “Search” depending on what product you are using, but it functions the same no matter the title. These sections provide you with a way to give search engine crawlers a more in depth view of your website! Despite all of their advances Google and Bing still cannot “read” an image so PhotoBiz gives you the ability to “tell” search engines exactly what is on your pages. Used in conjunction with the main Search Engines section of your site, page specific SEO helps give search engines a specific break down of your website. Want some help? Give us a call and set up an appointment to have one of our SEO specialists review your site for free.

    Page Specific SEO

These are three of my favorite features! For more great hidden gems in your PhotoBiz account, I encourage you to watch our recent webinar by Vance M’s about PhotoBiz Hidden Gems: Overlooked Features. You can also learn more by watching our video tutorials in your control panel, or giving our Passionate Support Team a call at 866.463.7620. We are here to help Monday through Friday, 9AM-8 PM EST.

    Photographing Foreign Models

Travel photography is often frustrating because you can’t always be in the right place at the right time with the right lighting. If you like to photograph people and their culture, you usually breeze in and out of a village or town relying on serendipity to get good shots. This is not the way to do it.

I learned a long time ago that it takes forethought and planning to guarantee great pictures of people in other cultures. Sure, serendipity does happen at times when everything comes together. We all know, however, that this doesn’t happen often.

Therefore, when I travel to a foreign destination, I make a list of the types of images I want to take. For example, my preconceived list of ideas when I took a photo tour group to Indonesia looked like this:

    • Balinese dancers posing in front of temple
    • Kecak fire dance
    • Javanese bride with full makeup and traditional attire
    • Workers mining sulfur in smoke
    • Balinese dancer posing with a barong

To get these kinds of shots, I have to wear a director’s hat and set these images up. I use a local guide or taxi driver to make the arrangements. I choose the time of day when the lighting is best, the location, and I always select the models to make sure they are the kind of people I want to photograph. The fee is negotiated before the actual shoot, of course.

Usually through an interpreter, I direct the action. I place the models where I want them, and I ask for a certain expression, pose, or stance. For the kecak fire dance where I had about 60 dancers, I told them I wanted no music and, in fact, no dancing. I wanted them to hold a position that is representative of the dance, but I didn’t want movement. In this way, my photo tour group wouldn’t have to worry about using fast shutter speeds in the low light environment of shade. We could get the perfect picture that would be almost impossible during the actual performance which is always done at night.
