August 2009 Featured Photographer of the Month
Our August Featured Photographer of the Month
Michelle Moore
“I have been thoroughly impressed with PhotoBiz right off the bat. I had been eying their websites for a few months, and I finally decided to make the leap. After being with one of those “other” companies for a long time, I am well aware of the change. I was impressed with having immediate access to get started on my new website, as well as the excellent customer service! I had a few questions after getting everything set-up, and when I called, someone answered! I can’t emphasize how important it is to be able to chat with someone, get answers, and make suggestions all in a matter of 30 minutes! The back-end is very intuitive, and the front-end is simple & sleek. I can’t wait to see how my clients respond. Thank you!”

1 What equipment you do you use?
I am a 100% Canon shooter. I work with the 1DS Mark II series, and occasionally will pull out my Canon film body. I work with a range of lenses, but my favorites are the 35mm 1.4, 45mm TSE, and 50mm 1.0
2 How long have you been shooting?
I have been shooting for just about 8 years, and professionally for over 4 years now. I played around with photography in high school (when I started), taking images of clouds and nature, but it wasn’t until college that I started photographing bands and working with people (6 years ago).
3 Where are you located?
I am located in Seattle, Washington.
4 What type of photographs do you take?
I am a Fashion Photographer, who also specializes in High School Senior Portraits.
5 When did you notice that you had passion for photography?
Around my Sophomore year of college when I discovered that I could combine my love of fashion magazines, and working with people into one profession; Fashion Photography.
6 Is there anything unique about what you do?
At the heart and soul of my photography, is making people feel something, be it about themselves, or a stranger. I strive to capture a person’s true personality in a photo, and am heavily influenced by the person I am shooting. I try not to buy into what is the latest photography fad, but instead shoot for me, and the client alone.
7 What’s the funniest thing that ever happened during a shoot?
This is a story I re-tell to almost every high school senior. I once was photographing a senior portrait, and we were on the street outside a really cool vintage movie theater. I literally pulled out my camera, asked my client to stand against the wall, and just as I clicked the shutter, a crazy random person on the street jumps into the frame and does a pose right as I took the first frame. My client and I had a giggle, and it really set a fun and relaxed tone for the rest of our session :)
8 What’s the scariest thing that ever happened during a shoot?
I can’t think of a good story off the top of my head, but I did pull a lens out of my bag during a wedding ceremony once, only to realize it was broken. Luckily I was able to get through the ceremony with it (and my back-up lens). It’s SO important to have back-up gear! It’s not a matter of “will it happen to me?”, but “when will it happen to me, and will I be prepared?”.
9 How many events do you photograph each year?
Last year was my first full year shooting seniors, and we saw about 70+ senior clients in 2008.
10 Have you had to changed anything to adjust in current economic times?
One should always re-evaluate their business model from year to year. I did pay particular attention to my business plan for 2009 to take into consideration our current economic situation.
11 Describe your shooting style?
Relaxed, free, fun! I like to move around a lot, and give my client something to do, rather than set up poses. I like to capture moments as they unfold, and be inspired by my surroundings, the client’s clothes, and their personality.
