Strong Alliances give you a Competitive Advantage!
In a time where everyone is trying to cut costs and save a dime, it can be really important to try and make an alliance with a reputable company that shares a mutual benefit. As a business owner, you know that these types of alliances can really save you a lot of money; however, they can be hard to find. Here at PhotoBiz, we already have a strong alliance with one of the most powerful merchant providers for you. This offers you a way to save money while giving your customers’ the convenience of accepting credit cards.
How do I accept credit cards online?
For an easy to read (technical description) click here to read a great wiki. In basic terms, there is a “payment gateway” that allows your shopping cart to verify a credit card transaction online in a secure manor. There are three main components: A merchant provider, A payment gateway, and the merchant owner (YOU). The merchant provider is a large company that accepts a payment for you and provides you a line of credit until the charge goes through with their specific card association (Visa, MasterCard, American Express & Discover). They charge you a transaction fee based on cardholder risk.
[:: The lowest risk is when you have the credit card in hand and swipe it through a machine. A slightly higher risk occurs when you take a credit card over the phone. Online transactions have the highest risk and subsequently the highest transaction charge. ::]
The payment gateway allows for ecommerce to take place and is kind of like a “Body Guard” that bridges the gap between the merchant provider and you. Having a secure payment gateway and a reputable merchant provider will save you a lot of time and money.

Security
Itransact is able to offer you some incredibly low transaction rates while not having to charge you any fixed costs, but that’s just half of it. Your bottom dollar is obviously an important aspect of your business and you need to control your cost, but cost is by no means the most important feature of a Merchant Provider. You also want to provide a safe and secure website to give both you and your customer’s ease of mind. This can be very costly, time consuming and worrisome if not done correctly. All card holder data is stored on iTransact’s secure servers so that both you and your customers can be confident this information is protected. Security is the #1 concern and iTransact does a fantastic job of exceeding these expectations. PhotoBiz, all of our merchant solutions, Our Shopping Cart and most importantly all of our customers are completely PCI compliant and secure to accept credit cards online!
Plan A states a$49.00 set up fee, $9.95 statement fee 2.19% +.19 transaction fee.
Plan B states no statement fee but the 2.89% +.20 transaction fee.
Did you mean the pland B had no statement fee?
Dawn- With Itransact, there are no statement fees to pay at all. With most other companies, you will incur a fee when request for a statement.

How often do I pay a statement fee to the merchant provider? Is that something that I would automatically get/pay for each month or something I pay for only when I request a statement?
Thank you!
Dawn

I'm looking for companies that provide products at wholesale costs. Can you tell me where I might find such companies or do you have any suggestions. I'm interested in products suitable for senior portraits and fine art photos (ie., folios, albums, note cards, ect.). We live in a very depressed area and the companies I have found have priced these items at a point in which I wouldn't be able to make any money off them.
This information is very helpful. It really helps me understand more about PCI. Keep posting. Will certainly try doing that myself. Your post/article really helped. Thanks a lot.
......Q? By Emily: Do you think you might offer options to upload my own font in the future? Also, any plans for customizing watermarks on photos instead of the big Copyright C ? I love the site designs! Great Job!...
Uploading your own font is a great suggestion. I will be sure to send this suggestion on to my supervisor, but to be honest, I haven't heard of this as of yet.
In regards to the watermark, we do have some photographers that create an action in PhotoShop to put their own watermark on all of their photos at once. This allows them to have their own watermark instead of just the "C" in the Online Proofing and Ordering System.
We're glad that you like the designs! Some new features just came out: http://blog.photobiz.com/photobiz-adds-more along with Embedded Video!: http://blip.tv/play/Af7AUpX0Dg

Nicole,
You can currently use your own merchant provider by making a payment method by phone and taking the credit cards over the phone. I will look into the option of accepting your current merchant online with our shopping cart, however, I would point out that the rate you are receiving now will very likely be much higher with an online transaction. Thanks for the post!
