You spend a lot of time creating your images.
Planning the session. Getting the lighting right. Working with your client. Editing hundreds of photos. Delivering the final gallery.
Then someone takes a screenshot.
Watermarks have been around almost as long as photographers have been sharing images online. They may not stop every screenshot or unauthorized use, but they can make it much harder for someone to pass your photography off as their own.
They can also keep your business name attached to your work when your photos are shared online.
And now, creating one is a lot easier.
PhotoBiz has a new free Watermark Maker for photographers that turns your existing logo into a transparent watermark you can use in your galleries, Lightroom, Photoshop, Canva, and more.
Your Watermark.
Should Photographers Still Watermark Their Images?
There isn't one rule that works for every photographer.
Some photographers prefer completely clean images, especially on their portfolio or social media. Others watermark every proof they send to a client.
The better question is:
Where does a watermark make sense for your business?
Client proofs are one of the strongest examples.
If you're allowing someone to review dozens or hundreds of images before purchasing or downloading them, placing a watermark across those previews makes it less convenient to simply screenshot the proofs instead.
Watermarks can also make sense for:
- Client galleries
- Proofing galleries
- Event photography previews
- Sports photography
- School photography
- Sneak peeks
- Social media previews
- Blog images
- Images sent before final payment or delivery
You don't necessarily need to watermark everything you publish.
Use them where they provide a practical benefit.

Put Your New Watermark in Your PhotoBiz Client Galleries
If you're already using PhotoBiz Client Galleries, you can upload your new watermark directly into your gallery settings.
Go to:
Client Galleries → Settings → Watermark Visibility
From there, you can upload your custom watermark and control how prominently it appears while clients are browsing their images. PhotoBiz also lets you display the watermark on the large image view or across both the large image and gallery grid.
You can then decide which gallery events should display your watermark.
One important distinction: gallery watermarks appear while clients are viewing images. They are not permanently added to files clients are allowed to download.
That means your clients can still receive clean final photographs when you choose to provide them.
